Abstract

Molecular chemistry provides the chemical foundation for biotechnology by explaining how nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, metabolites, and small molecules interact within biological systems. Modern biotechnology uses these molecular principles to manipulate genetic information, engineer enzymes, develop biosensors, manufacture therapeutic products, and create advanced biomaterials. Chemical understanding of molecular structure, bonding, reactivity, recognition, catalysis, and self-assembly is essential for controlling biological processes and designing useful products. This paper examines nine major dimensions of molecular chemistry and its applications in biotechnology, including nucleic acids, protein chemistry, enzyme engineering, molecular recognition, biosensors, drug and vaccine development, biocatalysis, biomaterials, and emerging synthetic biology.
