Diagnostic Assessment and Its Impact on the Academic Achievement of First-Year Middle School Learners: An Analytical Descriptive Study
Keywords:
Diagnostic Assessment; Educational Assessment.Abstract
This research paper aims to highlight the importance of diagnostic assessment and the reality of its implementation in the educational field, while emphasizing its role in reinforcing and making use of learners’ prior knowledge and learning achievements at the middle school level. This is achieved through the effective and appropriate strategies adopted by teachers, which include various activities and applications that contribute to improving learning outcomes, whether oral or written, and to building new learning experiences. Such practices contribute, on the one hand, to the smooth running of the teaching-learning process and, on the other hand, to improving the curriculum and enhancing the effectiveness of education.
From this perspective, our study focused on a sample of first-year middle school learners. We conducted a diagnostic assessment in order to identify the learners’ educational level and determine their difficulties by identifying their strengths and weaknesses, with the aim of addressing them and proposing appropriate solutions. The main finding reached by the study concerns the extent to which both teachers and learners respond to this type of assessment, as well as its effectiveness in improving academic achievement throughout the learners’ educational trajectory.
The study adopted the descriptive method by describing diagnostic assessment within the educational environment, calculating percentages, and analyzing them after determining their frequencies according to the criteria of strengths and weaknesses, accompanied by appropriate solutions.
